The “Biodiversity and Business” project is led by Cap Business Océan Indien (CAPBOI). CAPBOI is a platform based in Mauritius comprising the chambers of commerce and industry and  professional organisations in the South-West Indian Ocean region.

 

The project

This project led by Cap Business Océan Indien aims to improve the management of public policies and companies through natural capital accounting. It also aims to increase exchanges between public and private actors on the issues of biodiversity, natural capital and nature-based solutions.

Intervention areas: Union of the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, France, Seychelles

Partners:

  • Chambers of Commerce and Industry
  • Professional organisations members of the UCCIOI network
  • Universities of Mauritius and the Mascarene Islands

Activities:

  • Organisation of exchange and experience sharing spaces between companies to facilitate the appropriation of tools for measuring the impact of economic activities/businesses on biodiversity/ecosystems
  • Training of accountants and sustainable development managers (or their equivalent) in accounting tools
  • Production and dissemination of reports/knowledge for economic operators on the impact of businesses on biodiversity in at least one of the sectors prioritised by the Cap Business OI Roadmap 2021-2026
  • Selection and support of emblematic companies on a strategy to limit their impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems
