The “Awareness Raising” project is led by the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). IRD, the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development, is one of the leading scientific actors in the South-West Indian Ocean region.

The project

This project led by the IRD, with the support of the National Museum of Natural History, aims to mobilise different tools for dialogue (travelling exhibition, exchange and training workshops, video capsules, film) in order to strengthen the dialogue between science and society (S&S) on the subject of biodiversity governance in the Indian Ocean region

Areas of intervention: Madagascar

Partners:

  • National Museum of Natural History of Paris (MNHN)
  • University of Antananarivo
  • Centre National de Recherches sur l’Environnement

Activities:

  • Raising awareness of the population to the challenges of conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity through a travelling exhibition (small format; target 8-12 years old but accessible to all; bilingual French – Malagasy)
  • Creation and dissemination of digital teaching aids (films) available on the internet
  • Strengthen the S&S dialogue through exchange and training workshops for intermediary actors (young people, journalists, administrations, local populations, etc.)
  • Expression of perceptions related to biodiversity by the young population through the e-POP (Small Participatory Waves) device and debate of these capsules in the S&S dialogue
