Varuna hosts a workshop at the 8th RSE (CSR) & IDD (SDI) fair on 06 and 07 July 2023 in Antananarivo!
What is the RSE & IDD trade show?
Created in 2016, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)and Sustainable Development Initiatives (SDI) is an annual meeting place for players committed to sustainability and social responsibility in Madagascar.
It is organized by UR-CSR Consulting, and sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD), the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy (MPEB), the Ministry of Tourism (MT) and the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and Consumption (MICC).
What’s the aim?
The aim of the show is to facilitate meetings and exchanges between stakeholders, environmental experts and the general public. An opportunity for participants to share best practices and lessons learned in terms of CSR.
The central theme chosen for this 8th edition, which took place on July 06 and 07, 2023 at the Novotel Alarobia, Madagascar, was “The private sector and biodiversity: opportunity or threat?“. An opportunity to discuss the role and place of the private sector in preserving biodiversity alongside other partners.
The program?
Several activities were on the program for this 8th edition:
– Thematic conferences for the general public
– Inter-university pitch contest for young project leaders
– Events and workshops to raise awareness on corporate social responsibility
– Launch of the CSR Award to recognise organisations making a contribution to sustainable development.
Varuna’s commitments:
Through 3 of its projects:
– Strengthening the capacity of private-sector players to mainstream biodiversity into their management, supported by Cap Business Océan Indien
– Structuring a network of academic “natural capital/ecosystem services” players to support the mainstreaming of biodiversity into public and private policies, led by the Université des Mascareignes.
– Indian Ocean Business Biodiversity” call for projects launched by Expertise France
The Varuna Biodiversité program, which aims to halt the erosion of biodiversity in the southwestern Indian Ocean, was a partner in this 8th edition.
A Solution workshop “Seizing green financing opportunities: How to set up a project that meets green financing criteria?” was organized during the event, with topics including:
– Why set up a biodiversity project?
– Mainstreaming biodiversity into the private sector: what are we talking about?
– Best practices in designing a biodiversity project for a company
– What about developing a nature-based solutions (NBS) project?
These two days of the CSR-SDI fair enabled companies from both the public and private sectors to take stock of their responsibility in preserving biodiversity, and to exchange ideas on how to measure and reduce their impact on biodiversity.
