Varuna_B4B is organising a conference-debate on “Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture »
Organised in partnership with the Antananarivo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIA) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Madagascar, the 3rd conference-debate of the “Indian Ocean Resilience” cycle took place on July 13, 2023 at the CCI Antananarivo, Madagascar.
This conference was held as part of the Varuna biodiversity program, through the “Business for Biodiversity (B4B)” project, which aims to strengthen dialogue between public and private players on the issues of biodiversity, natural capital and nature-based solutions, led by its partner Cap Business Océan Indien (CAPBOI).
Mrs. Adriannie TAMOHA, Director of Investor Services at the Economic Development Board of Madagascar (EDBM), Mrs. Faravololona RASAMIMANANA, leader of the CCIA’s bamboo development project and board member of the regional branch of Women for Sustainable Development and Food Security (FDDSA) and Mrs. Hasina Suzah RATOVONIRINA, Agronomist, Mandela Washington Fellow 2019, One Young Word Ambassador, Head of Component at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) were the three main speakers at the conference.
Conference objective:
This meeting covered local and regional economic news and then opened the debate around agricultural sustainability. Agriculture and agro-industry are priority business sectors for the roll-out of Cap Business Océan Indien’s 2021-2026 Roadmap, which aims to support the private sector towards an ecological transition in its practices.
How to reconcile agriculture and biodiversity, essential short- and long-term issues for the populations of the Indian Ocean? Is it possible to strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector, without going through sustainable development and the ecological transformation of agricultural practices? These were the topics of debate at this 3rd conference.
